Where the Long Shadows Fall (beforetheinmostlight)
  1. Where the Long Shadows Fall (Beforetheinmostlight) - 19:10

Part one of The Inmost Light trilogy, this is a short EP containing one long, vaguely experimental song. According to the liner notes, proceeds from the sale of the album are to go to the renovation of Louis Wain’s grave. I personally feel that this is really a worthwhile album (even though it’s the weakest part of the trilogy), but it’s probably not for everyone. It’s a little long, and a little repetitve. Someone about it really appeals to me, though, and if you own either of the other two parts in the trilogy, you really owe it to yourself to get this. Lyrics are included in the liner.

WHERE THE LONG SHADOWS FALL (BEFORETHEINMOSTLIGHT) is somewhat of a return to the old experimental days. Actually, that’s not entirely accurate, since the song really sounds nothing like those early, noisy days. While the construction could be considered fairly similar, this song is actually extremely subtle and ghostly, mixing Tibet’s spoken and whispered vocals over eerie noises, a choir, and the (infamous) “long shadows” loop, which is a piece from the only known recording of the songs of Alessandro Moreschi, the last castrato.

Epilogue: (David Tibet) A voice whispers to me, and says “Nothing.  Nothing.  There is nothing.”
