An interesting collaboration between the two primary members of Current 93, Steven Stapleton and David Tibet. It doesn’t sound a lot like c93, but reminds me rather of Nurse With Wound. Very quiet, ambient, and slow. Good night-time music. I actually like this album a lot; it’s lovely stuff, but probably won’t appeal to everybody. No lyrics in the liner.
THE SADNESS OF THINGS is a long, slow, and repetitive track, centering around a quiet drumbeat, an eerie Asian-sounding flute, and the occasional voices ghosting out of the sheet of sound. It’s quiet and sad, and very very pretty. Features David Tibet, Steven Stapleton, Ruby Wallis and Joolie Wood. A friend of mine once described this track as “music to land UFOs by.” Hmm.
THE GRAVE AND BEAUTIFUL NAME OF SADNESS is another slow and beautiful and spooky track, this time featuring Steven Stapleton and Geoff Cox. The liner notes state that it’s the soundtrack to a film by Diana Rogerson.
No epilogue.
