DISC I (FUNERAL MUSIC FOR US ALL)
DISC II (LOVE, SLEEP AND DREAMS)
Like Emblems: The Menstrual Years, this album is sort of a “greatest hits” release, consisting of some of Tibet’s favorite Current 93 material. Fortunately, there is barely any duplication between this release and the earlier Emblems: The Menstrual Years, so one could (should?) buy both to get a great overview of Current 93’s work over the past fifteen years. Since (aside from one short track) there’s no new material included, you may not need to pick up this release. However, if you’re fairly new to Current 93 and want to learn more about their changing sounds and many albums of the past years, you’ll definitely need a copy of this. No lyrics.
CHRISTUS CHRISTUS (THE SHELLS HAVE CRACKED) previously appeared on Dogs Blood Rising.
ACH GOLGOTHA (MALDOROR IS DEAD) is from Nature Unveiled.
IMPERIUM I was originally released on Imperium.
The brief fourth track, BE, was also released on Imperium.
The version of OH COAL BLACK SMITH presented here is from Swastikas For Goddy, though it’s missing the short monologue by Boyd Rice that appeared on the original track.
Track six, LOONY RUNES, first appeared on a single of the same name and was later reproduced on Crooked Crosses for the Nodding God and elsewhere.
BLACK FLOWERS PLEASE is from Swastikas For Goddy.
The only new piece on this album, ANYWAY, PEOPLE DIE is a short unreleased track originally intended for Thunder Perfect Mind. Another, much different version of this song was also released on Island.
DOGUN previously appeared on Christ and the Pale Queens Mighty in Sorrow.
HOURGLASS (FOR DIANA) is from Earth Covers Earth.
Always a favorite, FALLING was first released on Island.
Track twelve, IN THE HEART OF THE WOOD (AND WHAT I FOUND THERE) is from Thunder Perfect Mind.
MARY WAITS IN SILENCE is also from Thunder Perfect Mind.
Like the previous two tracks, A SADNESS SONG is likewise from Thunder Perfect Mind.
The final track on Disc I, ALL THE PRETTY LITTLE HORSES is the sweet melancholy version that was sung by Nick Cave on the incomparable All The Pretty Little Horses (Theinmostlight) album.
Track one on Disc II, THE STARRES ARE MARCHING SADLY HOME, is an excerpt from the EP titled The Starres Are Marching Sadly Home (Theinmostlightthirdandfinal).
LUCIFER OVER LONDON was released on the Lucifer Over London EP.
HOW THE GREAT SATANIC GLORY FADED is from the long out-of-print Tamlin EP. You may notice that Tiny Tim’s comments are slightly shorter in this version.
The ostentatiously-titled fourth track, THE SEVEN SEALS ARE REVEALED AT THE END OF TIME AS SEVEN BOWS: THE BLOODBOW, THE PISSBOW, THE PAINBOW, THE FAMINEBOW, THE DEATHBOW, THE ANGERBOW, THE HOHOHOBOW is from Lucifer Over London.
Track five, BLOODSTREAMRUNS, is actually a Nature and Organisation track from their flawless Beauty Reaps the Blood of Solitude album (a must-own CD if there ever was one).
ALL THE WORLD MAKES GREAT BLOOD previously appeared on Of Ruine or Some Blazing Starre.
THE GREAT BLOODY AND BRUISED VEIL OF THIS WORLD is also from Of Ruine or Some Blazing Starre.
CALLING FOR VANISHED FACES I is from All The Pretty Little Horses (Theinmostlight).
For some reason, THE BLOODBELLS CHIME has become one of my all-time favorite Current 93 tracks. It’s just such a sweet piece… You can find it on All The Pretty Little Horses (Theinmostlight).
CALLING FOR VANISHED FACES II is also from All The Pretty Little Horses (Theinmostlight).
The version of A GOTHIC LOVE SONG (FOR N.) on this compilation is from the A Gothic Love Song single.
Another non-Current 93 track, THE DEAD SIDE OF THE MOON is an excerpt from the Stapleton and Tibet collaboration Musical Pumpkin Cottage.
Lucky track thirteen is an excerpt from Nurse With Wound’s SEA ARMCHAIR, off of their “Spiral Insana” album. It’s soft, quiet and soothing.
SO: THIS EMPIRE IS NOTHING is from Of Ruine or Some Blazing Starre.
Finally, this second version of ALL THE PRETTY LITTLE HORSES is an excerpt from The Starres Are Marching Sadly Home (Theinmostlightthirdandfinal). It is sung by Shirley Collins.
No epilogue.
